Strengthening Traditional Friendship Between Vietnam and Bulgaria

On November 30 in Hanoi, the Hanoi Vietnam–Bulgaria Friendship Association held its 2nd Congress for the 2025–2030 term, attended by more than 130 delegates and guests.

During the 2020–2025 term, the Vietnam–Bulgaria Friendship Association achieved notable results in strengthening friendship and cooperation; organising activities that foster peace, solidarity, and friendship between the people of Hanoi and those of Sofia, thereby contributing to the Party’s and State’s people-to-people diplomacy efforts in the capital.

Regarding its directions for the next term, the Association will continue to organize people-to-people diplomacy activities with practical content and diverse forms that reflect the cultural identity of Hanoi; strengthen and promote the traditional friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Bulgaria in general, and between the people of Hanoi and those of Sofia in particular; and move toward the celebration of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2030.

Speaking at the event, Bulgarian Ambassador to Vietnam Pavlin Todorov emphasised that the Congress is taking place at a time when bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Vietnam are at their highest level of development. The year 2025 not only marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations but also serves as a special milestone to reflect on the progress made and to chart directions for further strengthening the partnership in the future.

Appreciating the contributions of the Vietnam–Bulgaria Friendship Association at the central level as well as its Hanoi chapter, Ambassador Pavlin Todorov affirmed that these efforts have played an important role in preserving the long-standing ties of friendship between Vietnam and Bulgaria, while also creating new, practical, and meaningful areas of cooperation that help further deepen the Vietnam–Bulgaria Strategic Partnership.

On this occasion, Ambassador Pavlin Todorov expressed his gratitude to the Hanoi Vietnam–Bulgaria Friendship Association for its close and effective coordination with the Embassy of Bulgaria in Vietnam in implementing activities aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and multifaceted cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.

Speaking at the Congress, Tran Thi Phuong, Permanent Vice President of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations, acknowledged the contributions of the Hanoi Vietnam–Bulgaria Friendship Association in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria, affirming that the Association’s activities have helped promote the image of Hanoi and Vietnam to international friends.

She proposed that the Hanoi Vietnam–Bulgaria Friendship Association continue to uphold its role by disseminating key documents of the Party and State to its members; enhancing cooperation with the Bulgarian Embassy, partners in Sofia, and various localities across Bulgaria; establishing new sub-chapters; expanding humanitarian activities; and strengthening its role as a bridge for economic, cultural, sports, and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria.

The Congress elected the Executive Committee and the Supervisory Board for the 2025–2030 term, and presented certificates of merit to individuals and collectives with outstanding contributions to promoting people-to-people diplomacy in Hanoi, thereby further nurturing the fine relationship between Vietnam and Bulgaria.
