The event was connected online to more than 150 locations both domestically and internationally, including Vietnamese representative missions abroad, associations, Vietnamese language teaching institutions, and Vietnamese communities in many countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang noted that in recent years, the Day Honoring the Vietnamese Language has been widely implemented and has received strong support from overseas Vietnamese communities. As a result, the Vietnamese language has continued to be preserved and promoted, contributing to the strengthening of national cultural identity and enhancing connections between generations of overseas Vietnamese and their homeland.

At the launch of the Day Honoring the Vietnamese Language and the 2026 Search for Vietnamese Language Ambassadors program, Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, emphasized that the Vietnamese language is not only a means of communication but also a repository of memory, culture, and national roots. Maintaining and developing the Vietnamese language within the community, especially among younger generations, plays an important role in strengthening internal community resources and fostering closer ties with the homeland.

Reflecting on the past three years, Nguyen Trung Kien shared that the program has achieved many encouraging results. In 2025, six Vietnamese Language Ambassadors were honored, while nine commemorative medals and 12 Vietnamese book collections were presented to overseas Vietnamese communities around the world.

A new feature of the 2026 program is the shift from a “competition” format to a process of “searching for and selecting” outstanding individuals who have made substantive contributions to promoting the Vietnamese language and culture abroad. This adjustment, announced by the professional council, aims to improve both the quality and practical relevance of the program.

Within the framework of the launch ceremony, a range of accompanying activities were introduced, including exhibitions, book launches, presentations, and technology-based products supporting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese. Representatives of training institutions also outlined plans to organize training courses for overseas Vietnamese teachers, develop free online Vietnamese language learning channels, and expand digital learning materials for Vietnamese communities in many countries.

At the event, individuals previously honored as Vietnamese Language Ambassadors shared practical experiences in maintaining and promoting the Vietnamese language within their communities. In addition, several cooperation programs between media and publishing agencies were announced to bring the Vietnamese language closer to overseas Vietnamese through suitable products.

Vietnam currently has more than six million citizens living, studying, and working in over 130 countries and territories. In this context, preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language continues to be identified as an important task, contributing to safeguarding national cultural identity and strengthening the great national unity bloc. September 8 each year has been designated as the Day Honoring the Vietnamese Language in the Vietnamese community abroad.
