Connecting markets, technology, and supply chains

In a paper submitted to the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Tran Ba Phuc, President of the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia and Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Overseas, said that in recent years the Vietnamese business community in Australia has proactively promoted trade connectivity, science and technology cooperation, and external relations.

During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Australia in March 2024, the Association coordinated reception and community networking activities, contributing to deepening the substance of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Association has also organized seminars introducing investment opportunities, promoting Vietnamese exports to the Australian market, and showcasing Vietnamese products locally. In addition, it has arranged delegations of overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs to visit Vietnam to explore cooperation and investment opportunities.

According to Tran Ba Phuc, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Australia exceeded USD 14 billion in 2025, while registered Australian FDI surpassed USD 3 billion. Overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs have actively participated in trade connectivity, investment promotion, and business cooperation activities between the two countries. Many overseas Vietnamese businesspeople have also made direct investments in Vietnam and engaged in technology transfer and business networking initiatives between the two nations.

In Europe, numerous activities connecting Vietnamese enterprises with overseas Vietnamese business communities have also been implemented in recent years. According to Hoang Dinh Thang, President of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe, the Union has cooperated with Vietnamese associations to promote trade promotion, tourism promotion, investment connectivity, technology transfer, startup support, and policy consultation between Vietnam and European countries.

Some initiatives have been developed with a focus on specific sectors. The Liaison Association with Overseas Vietnamese stated that it has established and operated an investment support forum for overseas Vietnamese to provide information on investment projects calling for participation from overseas Vietnamese and foreign investors.

The Association has also cooperated with the Vietnam Business Culture Association and Vietnamese community organizations in France to organize forums connecting domestic enterprises with Vietnamese businesses in France and Europe; participated in the Global Vietnamese Business Forum in Thailand; and connected with Vietnamese individuals and enterprises in many countries to seek export markets for Vietnamese agricultural products and goods.

Notably, the Association has coordinated with the Vietnam Automation Association to connect overseas Vietnamese experts in order to support domestic enterprises in joining manufacturing and supply chains for products serving the world’s leading aerospace manufacturers. This is a sector with stringent requirements in technical standards, quality control, and supply chain management capabilities - criteria that have long posed barriers for many domestic manufacturing enterprises.

In Australia, Vietnamese intellectuals and entrepreneurs have also participated in numerous research and technology transfer activities in the fields of AI and green technology. According to Tran Ba Phuc, many young Vietnamese entrepreneurs and intellectuals in Australia are actively connecting technology and scientific communities between the two countries.

Many community activities in recent years have also been organized in ways that combine cultural, tourism, and trade promotion. Hung Kings Commemoration Day activities in Laos, Thailand, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Taiwan (China) have been held alongside cultural and artistic programs, exhibitions, trade exchanges, and tourism promotion events, attracting not only overseas Vietnamese communities but also local residents.

Proposals for new mechanisms to connect overseas Vietnamese resources

Many opinions submitted to the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front emphasized the need to innovate methods of connecting with overseas Vietnamese communities as community activities become increasingly associated with technology and digital networks, particularly through the development of digital platforms linking overseas Vietnamese with agencies, enterprises, and localities in Vietnam.

Tran Ba Phuc proposed the development of AI-integrated digital platforms that would enable overseas Vietnamese in different countries to access information, interact, and contribute opinions more conveniently. According to him, such digital platforms could help connect Vietnamese experts by professional field, update information, and receive feedback from overseas Vietnamese communities more quickly.

He also suggested establishing networks of overseas Vietnamese intellectuals and experts by sector, along with systematic, transparent, and timely response mechanisms for proposals and recommendations contributed by overseas Vietnamese. “Many overseas Vietnamese possess deep expertise, understand international practices, and are willing to contribute ideas and initiatives to important national development projects,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hoang Dinh Thang proposed building digital connection platforms between the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Vietnamese communities both at home and abroad, creating spaces for overseas Vietnamese to contribute opinions and engage more effectively in social feedback and policy consultation. He also stressed the importance of strengthening engagement with younger generations of overseas Vietnamese through programs on Vietnamese culture, language, national history, and homeland-oriented activities.

Alongside proposals on digital platforms and expert networks, the Liaison Association with Overseas Vietnamese stated that it is applying digital transformation in the Association’s administration, communications, networking, and management activities, while continuing to expand online Vietnamese language classes for overseas Vietnamese communities. To date, the Association has coordinated the opening of 15 online Vietnamese language classes in the United Kingdom, 10 classes in Japan, and 17 classes in Taiwan (China). It has also organized the “I Love My Mother Tongue” contest in several locations across Europe and Japan.
