This was the final stop in the “Vietnam Traditional Attire Pedestrian” series, which took place in nine major European cities from August 19 to 31, initiated and supported by the Vietnamese Women's Union in Europe.
Hundreds of Vietnamese gathered in the Austrian capital Vienna. Despite the rain and wind, the colorful and festive atmosphere, filled with national pride, spread vibrantly. For the first time, the red flag with a golden star was raised in the heart of Vienna. The resounding chant of “Vietnam” before the Austrian City Hall moved many to tears, like the heartbeat shared by children of Vietnam living far from home.
More than a remembrance of the forefathers’ contributions to building and defending the nation, the event also helped introduce to international friends the image of a friendly Vietnam rich in traditions and solidarity. The graceful image of Vietnamese women in radiant ao dai left a beautiful impression on both locals and international visitors.

Tran Thanh Hang, a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Women's Union in Europe, shared: “As Vietnamese living far from home, we all carry in our hearts a deep love for our country. Today, that love is expressed in every step, in the ao dai, the ao tu than, the ao ba ba… in the heart of Vienna. Many locals stopped to ask questions and congratulate us on Vietnam’s National Day. That was a moment that made me truly proud.”
Earlier, on August 19, the Vietnamese community in Poland opened the series with a colorful parade through the Old Town of Warsaw. Nguyen Viet Trieu, President of the Vietnamese Women's Union in Europe, said that choosing this historic milestone to launch the program was a way for overseas Vietnamese to show gratitude to the homeland and add another highlight to the great national celebration.
Following that success, on August 24, “Vietnam Traditional Attire Pedestrian” took place along the Danube River in Bratislava (Slovakia), where the ao dai blended with the traditional costumes of the Tay, Thai, Hmong, and Quan ho ethnic groups. Graceful footsteps combined with lively lion dances drew great attention from international friends.
On August 29, the program was held simultaneously in several locations: Košice (Slovakia), Liberec and Vysocina (Czech Republic), and London (United Kingdom). On August 31, the event continued at the Windmill Village (Netherlands) before concluding with a meaningful parade in Vienna (Austria).
Each destination in the series carried its own unique characteristics, but together they delivered a common message: uniting the community, affirming Vietnamese cultural identity, and introducing to the world the image of a proud and peace-loving nation.
“Vietnam Traditional Attire Pedestrian” was not just about footsteps in a national celebration - it was a bridge connecting the overseas Vietnamese community with the homeland, affirming the enduring vitality of Vietnamese culture across Europe.
