The Vietnamese Community in Greece Celebrates the Lunar New Year

Approximately 120 members of the Vietnamese community residing in Greece attended this year’s Homeland Spring program, along with guests from the Greek Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Greek friends who hold a deep affection for Vietnam, and ambassadors from Cuba, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Notably, the event was honored by the presence of Zetta Makri, a Member of the Hellenic Parliament and Chairwoman of the Greece–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group.

In her remarks at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong reviewed key milestones and achievements in Vietnam–Greece relations in 2025, a year marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador also reaffirmed the important role and contributions of the Vietnamese community in Greece, an inseparable part of the great Vietnamese national community, serving as a bridge of friendship between Vietnam and the international community, including Greece.

Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong further briefed community members on Vietnam’s development goals and foreign policy orientations adopted by the 14th National Party Congress, major national events scheduled for 2026, and expressed her hope that the Vietnamese community in Greece would remain united, always turn toward the homeland, and contribute to national development.

On behalf of the Community Liaison Board, Fotini Sarantidou Nguyen Bach Tuyet delivered a speech expressing the joy of overseas Vietnamese who, at the end of each year, can gather in a warm atmosphere oriented toward their roots at the Embassy of Vietnam in Greece - their shared home and a reliable pillar of support for the community over the past 15 years. The Vietnamese community also expressed pride in the outcomes of the Embassy’s activities in 2025, described as a “golden milestone” in bilateral relations between the two countries.

In her remarks at the event, Zetta Makri, Chairwoman of the Greece–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, expressed her pleasure at attending the celebration of the Vietnamese traditional Lunar New Year. She reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the two countries, particularly highlighting the close cooperation between the Greek and Vietnamese parliaments in 2025 and plans for further collaboration in the coming period.

Zetta Makri emphasized that despite the geographical distance, the two countries share common principles and values. Greece, she noted, is always keen to promote bilateral relations and stands ready to serve as a bridge between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), while also enhancing Greece’s presence in Southeast Asia.

Notably, during the program, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece presented the Second Prize and the Consolation Prize of the 11th National Award for External Information to Velissarios Kossivakis, translator Vasiliki Kappa, and the New Star Cinema group, in recognition of their contributions to honoring President Ho Chi Minh and promoting the image of Vietnam, its land and people, in Greece.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, guests enthusiastically took part in prize-winning games, enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes, and welcomed the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 in accordance with Vietnamese traditions.
