This was emphasized by Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, at the event “Women Breaking Barriers,” recently held at the United Nations Headquarters (New York). The event was co-organized by the Vietnamese Mission in coordination with the Missions of Sweden and Uruguay to the United Nations, the organization RISE, and the Spotlight Initiative.
The event marked the conclusion of “Women’s Month” at the United Nations, attracting strong interest and participation from representatives of UN member states, youth, and members of the public concerned with gender equality issues.
As one of the keynote speakers, Ambassador Do Hung Viet underscored that “breaking barriers” is not only reflected in symbolic achievements, but more importantly in ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls in all circumstances.
Ambassador Do Hung Viet affirmed that Vietnamese women have consistently been a core and pioneering force, from the struggle to defend the nation to the country’s socio-economic development. He also shared Vietnam’s notable achievements in promoting gender equality and protecting and supporting victims of gender-based violence.
According to him, advancing gender equality is a collective responsibility of society, requiring the engagement of both men and women through concrete and sustained efforts to create a safe, fair, and enabling environment for women and girls.
Through inspiring remarks from speakers who are accomplished and influential women in fields such as science, technology, media, sports, and the arts, the event helped highlight the role, potential, and contributions of women across all sectors. It also reaffirmed the commitment of the international community to eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls, thereby promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide.
