General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President To Lam’s visits to Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines demonstrate Vietnam’s efforts to position itself as a more active leader and coordinator within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This assessment was made by strategic security analyst Collins Chong Yew Keat of the University of Malaya in an interview with a correspondent in Kuala Lumpur on June 1.

The President of Vietnam has decided to grant amnesty to 9,950 prisoners currently serving prison sentences who meet the conditions stipulated by law. The decision takes effect on June 1, 2026, reaffirming the Party and State’s policy of clemency and humanitarianism while creating opportunities for those granted amnesty to reintegrate into society.

The 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress for the 2026-2031 term will take place in Hanoi from June 3-5 amid the country’s ongoing efforts to advance digital transformation, deepen international integration, and build new productive forces.
