At the meeting, Minister Le Hoai Trung congratulated Mauritania on its recent achievements, particularly in diversifying its economy, improving people's living standards, and successfully serving as Chair of the African Union (AU) for the 2024-2025 term.

Affirming that Vietnam consistently attaches importance to its traditional friendship with African countries, including Mauritania, Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed that the two countries increase exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level visits. He also suggested establishing a political consultation mechanism between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs to create fresh momentum for advancing bilateral ties.

Regarding cooperation in specific sectors, Minister Le Hoai Trung noted that Vietnam has a pool of experienced experts in agriculture, education, and healthcare. Vietnamese enterprises also possess experience in investing in mining, telecommunications, and oil and gas exploration in Africa. These are areas of mutual strength that both sides can leverage to expand cooperation and deliver tangible outcomes.

Expressing his delight at visiting Vietnam for the first time, Mauritanian Minister and Secretary-General of the Government Moctar Al Housseynou Lam conveyed a message from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani to General Secretary and State President To Lam, while thanking the Vietnamese side for its warm and gracious hospitality.

Moctar Al Housseynou Lam expressed his admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, highly appreciated the close coordination between the two countries at multilateral forums, and reaffirmed that Mauritania attaches great importance to its relationship with Vietnam. He expressed confidence that the visit would help usher in a new phase in bilateral relations.

Agreeing with the proposals put forward by Minister Le Hoai Trung, the Mauritanian Minister and Secretary-General of the Government said he would work with relevant ministries and agencies, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania, to strengthen coordination with the Vietnamese side and pursue concrete cooperation outcomes.

Noting that both Vietnam and Mauritania share the common feature of having long coastlines, Moctar Al Housseynou Lam proposed that the two sides explore opportunities for cooperation in the sustainable development of aquaculture.

The two sides also agreed to continue strengthening coordination at multilateral forums, including the Francophonie, and to promote cooperation between regional organizations such as ASEAN and the African Union (AU), thereby contributing to peace, stability, and development in their respective regions and around the world.
