Vietnam–Russia trade corridors poised for expansion: Russian expert
Emerging trade routes linking Vietnam and Russia are gaining momentum following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Moscow, with new trans-Eurasian rail corridors seen as a key driver of future connectivity, a Russian scholar has said.
Speaking to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Moscow, Dr. Anton Bredikhin of the Russian Academy of Sciences highlighted potential rail links connecting Russia to Vietnam via Mongolia or Kazakhstan, transiting through China.
He described the initiative as a large-scale Eurasian project that could significantly enhance intercontinental connectivity, support the development of a more sustainable transport network, and open up fresh trade flows. The corridors are also expected to boost civil aviation and serve as a strategic logistics backbone for regional economies.
On bilateral relations, Bredikhin noted strong alignment between Vietnam and Russia on key international issues and within multilateral platforms, laying the groundwork for deeper political trust and expanded strategic cooperation, according to VNA.

In energy, he pointed to nuclear power agreements as a cornerstone of long-term collaboration, helping anchor stable ties between the two countries.
Looking ahead, the scholar said economic cooperation continues to trend upward, while expressing hope for further easing of entry and residency procedures for Vietnamese citizens in Russia.
He also commended Vietnam’s foreign policy approach, describing it as balanced and adaptive in an increasingly complex global environment.

Vietnamese language tightens special Vietnam-Laos friendship
The Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang, in coordination with Pongkham Secondary School and High School and the Vietnamese community in Luang Prabang, recently held the final round of the “I Love Vietnamese” contest in Luang Prabang city, northern Laos.
The contest was part of activities marking the launch of the Day to Honour the Vietnamese Language in overseas Vietnamese communities and the 2026 Vietnamese Language Ambassador contest organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
Those attending the event were Vietnamese Consul General in Luang Prabang Vu Ngoc Ly, Director of the Luang Prabang Department of Education and Sports Soulidet Keobualaphet, representatives of the Vietnamese community, teachers and students from Pongkham Secondary School and High School and Hung Vuong Primary School.
In his opening remarks, Consul General Vu Ngoc Ly said the contest would encourage students to further study and practise Vietnamese, becoming dedicated ambassadors of the language and helping promote the teaching, learning and use of Vietnamese among overseas Vietnamese communities and international friends. He added that learning Vietnamese would also help students better understand Vietnam’s culture, history and traditions, and create opportunities for future study and work in Vietnam.
Speaking on behalf of the provincial authorities, Soulidet Keobualaphet said it was the first time the contest had been held in Luang Prabang, noting that it provided Lao students with a useful platform to improve language skills and international integration, while strengthening their understanding of Vietnam and contributing to greater mutual understanding and closer ties between the two countries, VOV reported.

At the closing ceremony, prizes were awarded to top-performing individuals and teams, along with learning materials to encourage continued study and help spread appreciation for the Vietnamese language, contributing to further strengthening the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Vietnam among countries making most effective use of IMF support
Vietnam is among the countries that make the most effective use of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) support, especially policy recommendations, noted head of the IMF’s Article IV consultation mission team to Vietnam Martin Sommer.
Sommer made that above statement during his meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on March 27.
He praised the country's policy planning and management of socio-economic development amid global fluctuations, expressing his satisfaction with the effective cooperation between Vietnam and the organization.
The official offered recommendations for Vietnam to continue maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring financial and energy security, and managing public debt, government debt, and external debt.
Sommer named several measures to effectively monitor fiscal and monetary policies, diversify development resources, remove economic bottlenecks, and administrative reforms so that the nation's economy can better withstand external shocks.

Pham, for his part, hailed the IMF's substantive and effective cooperation with Vietnam in recent years, noting that the delegation's assessments and recommendations have provided an important reference basis, helping the country proactively and flexibly formulate and implement monetary and fiscal policies, thereby maintaining macroeconomic stability and promoting growth.
He expressed his hope that the IMF would further enhance the quality of its dialogue and policy consultations with Vietnam and continue accompanying Vietnam by promptly sharing global and regional economic assessments and forecasts, VGP reported.
The Government leader urged the IMF continue helping Vietnam strengthen technical assistance and institutional capacity building, modernize the monetary and macroprudential policy framework, reinforce financial and banking system safety, develop capital markets, improve statistical systems and forecasting capacity, and support structural reforms to boost productivity.
The Vietnamese government stands ready to engage in in-depth exchanges and share information in accordance with regulations, working with the IMF to develop assessments and recommendations that are aligned with Vietnam's realities and development goals, thereby contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world, emphasized the host.
