Dr. Birol noted that with a population of more than 100 million people, abundant energy resources such as solar power, hydropower, and natural gas, as well as potential for future nuclear power development, Vietnam will serve as an important partner within the IEA framework.
Speaking at the conference, Ambassador of Vietnam to France Trinh Duc Hai underscored that the IEA’s decision is clear evidence of Vietnam’s persistent efforts and strong determination in advancing its energy transition and contributing to global climate action.
According to Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai, Vietnam’s accession to the IEA holds special significance as the country enters a new stage of development, remaining steadfast in its goals of achieving carbon neutrality and advancing a green energy transition. Vietnam strongly supports the shared vision of building a truly global energy organization that accurately reflects emerging energy trends and balances the interests of both member and association countries. The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam stands ready to contribute proactively and actively to global energy dialogues.
The IEA develops joint energy cooperation programs with its Association Countries. To date, the IEA has 13 Association Countries, including Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia in Southeast Asia. Association Countries are also eligible to participate in most Standing Groups and the IEA’s annual Ministerial Meetings.
