Mohamed bin Ahmed Twar Al Kuwari, First Vice Chairman of the Qatar’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, recently received visiting Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu, to discuss trade and economic relations between both countries and the investment opportunities available in both friend countries and to investigate the establishment of a joint business council, in the presence of Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Duc Hung.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hieu was on a visit to Qatar on July 4 – 5 where he co-chaired a political consultation at foreign deputy ministerial level, the second of its kind, with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, VNA reported.

According to The Peninsula Qatar, Mohamed bin Ahmed Twar Al Kuwari said that Qatari businessmen are interested in exploring investment opportunities in Vietnam, especially the capabilities it possesses and the facilities and incentives it provides for foreign investments.

He pointed out that the opportunity is favorable for the private sector in both countries to establish mutual partnerships and enhance the volume of trade exchange.

He stressed that the Qatar Chamber is keen to allow business owners to explore the available investment opportunities and establish joint meetings that pave the way for alliances and economic partnerships.

For his part, Hieu stressed that there is an opportunity to enhance cooperation in the economic areas, increase the volume of trade exchange, and establish long-term partnerships between the private sector in both countries, noting that his country has investment incentives and great potential.

He added that his country was able to attract major international companies. He also stressed that the areas in which the two sides can cooperate are many and varied, such as infrastructure, technology, communications, halal, and others.

The Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister called on Qatari business owners and investors to learn about investment opportunities in his country and to discuss the possibility of partnerships with their counterparts from Vietnam to benefit the economies of both countries, stressing that the Qatar Chamber plays a role in enhancing cooperation between the business community in both countries.

Hieu also paid a courtesy call to Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and met with Saleh bin Majid Al-Khulaifi, Assistant Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs at the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry; and Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud, CEO at Qatar Investment Authority.

The two countries regularly exchange delegations at all levels before the Covid-19 period, bilateral trade turnover in 2021 will reach USD 400 million. Qatari corporations such as Qatar Airways and Qatar National Bank (QNB) is active and effective in Vietnam.

However, these results are still not commensurate with the potential and expectations of the leaders and people of the two countries. The economies of Vietnam and Qatar are complementary and therefore there is still plenty of room to promote cooperation in the coming time.

Within the framework of the special visit, Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Doha and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community studying, living and doing business in Qatar, VN&TG reported.

At the meeting, Hieu affirming that the Party and State always take care and pay special attention to the overseas Vietnamese community; suggesting that the Vietnamese community continue to support and help each other, actively contribute to the development of themselves as well as the local community, contributing to the development of the bilateral relations.
