According to Nhan Dan, 193 Vietnamese passengers on the flight Airbus A321, number VJ2723 of Vietjet Airline, have arrived at Van Don airport from Japan’s COVID-19 epicenters on March 11. Another 160 citizens from Japan were also carried home safely on the same day.

The returnees are mainly overseas students and laborers with invalid visas or facing accommodation difficulties. All had had their health and body temperature carefully checked before boarding the plane. Anti-pandemic measures were fully complied with during flight time.

In 2020, Quang Ninh’s Van Don International Airport received over 180 international flights carrying over 40 passengers, including both overseas Vietnamese and foreign experts. In January 2021 only, the airport welcomed another repatriation flight from Japan and four flights carrying experts from Korea. Anti-epidemic safety measures at the place have been raised to the highest level so far to mitigate the spread of the novel virus.

Japan is facing a rising cases of COVID-19. To date, the country registers 444,289 patients, at least 8,451 have died. On Friday, health minister Norihisa Tamur said coronavirus cases in the greater Tokyo area are showing signs of creeping up, raising questions about whether a state of emergency can be lifted on schedule on March 21.

The seven-day average of new cases in Tokyo has been stuck in the mid- to high-200s since late February, while the daily tally exceeded 300 for the fourth straight day on Saturday.

Tokyo — and the rest of the country — are racing to bring coronavirus cases under control as it prepares to host the Summer Olympics, scheduled to start on July 23. Overall, Japan has recorded about 445,000 coronavirus cases and 8,500 deaths.

The central government will begin a full-fledged look early next week into whether to lift its second coronavirus state of emergency, in place for the greater Tokyo area, as scheduled, according to Japan Times.

Earlier on March 7, 360 Vietnamese nationals touched down at Can Tho International Airport on a repatriation flight from Singapore. The returnees include children under 18 years of age, sick people, and others under special difficulties. All passengers and flight crew members are fully equipped with face masks, protective gear while strictly following anti-pandemic measures.

Upon arrival, they underwent medical check-ups and were immediately transferred to quarantine facilities in Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang province in line with regulations relating to COVID-19 prevention and control.

On March 6, Can Tho International Airport also welcomed a flight to bring home as many as 300 Vietnamese citizens from Malaysia, and all the passengers were put in quarantine in concentrated isolation facilities according to COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.

On October 2020, another 360 Vietnamese citizens were repatriated from Singapore on two Pacific Airlines flights. The flights were arranged by Vietnamese authorities, the Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore, Pacific Airlines, and agencies in Singapore.

Last May, a Vietnam Airlines flight Sunday repatriated 344 Vietnamese citizens from Singapore, the biggest Covid-19 hotspot in Southeast Asia at that time.

Flight VN650 flight landed at the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho airport Sunday afternoon, with passengers including pregnant women, the elderly, youth under 18, people suffering illnesses, and workers or tourists whose visas had expired, according to a Vietnam Foreign Ministry release.

Vietnam recorded 15 new COVID-19 infections on March 12 evening, including two cases in northern Hai Duong province and 13 imported, the Ministry of Health has said.

The two cases in Hai Duong province are workers of the Vietnam Poyun Electronics Co. Ltd. in Chi Linh city. Both of them had been previously put under quarantine and are now treated at a COVID-19 treatment hospital in Hai Duong. Meanwhile, the 13 imported cases have been quarantined upon their arrival in northern Quang Ninh province and the southern provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Thap.

On the morning of March 13, however, no new case was reported. Meanwhile, 3,663 more people were safely injected with the COVID-19 vaccine on the fifth day of vaccination.
