Vietnamese Community in Bangkok Celebrates National Day, 50 Years of Ties

Recently, the Association of Thai people of Vietnamese origin in Bangkok and surrounding areas held a ceremony on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945-September 2, 2026) and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations (August 6, 1976-August 6, 2026).

The ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung, President of the General Association of Vietnamese in Thailand Ho Van Lam, President of the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association Sanan Angubolkul, and nearly 400 Vietnamese expatriates in Bangkok and several other provinces.

In his opening remarks, President of the Association of Thai people of Vietnamese origin in Bangkok and surrounding areas Do Xuan Loc expressed his pleasure and honor at joining Vietnamese expatriates in Bangkok and surrounding areas in celebrating the 81st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations. He also wished for the friendship between Vietnam and Thailand to grow increasingly strong and fruitful.

Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung emphasized that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He affirmed that the Thai community of Vietnamese origin, in its role as a bridge between the two countries, has made important contributions to the development of bilateral relations. Ambassador Pham Viet Hung expressed his hope that the community would continue contributing to the building of a relationship based on trust and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung made clear that the consistent guiding principle is that Vietnamese people overseas are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese national community. Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW continues to reaffirm this policy, emphasizing that work concerning Vietnamese people overseas should create favorable conditions for them to make greater contributions to national development, preserve national cultural identity, integrate and thrive in their host countries, and help promote friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries.

President of the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association Sanan Angubolkul expressed his pleasure at attending the event celebrating 50 years of Vietnam-Thailand relations. He congratulated and highly appreciated the activities of the Association of Thai People of Vietnamese Origin in Bangkok and Surrounding Areas, emphasizing that this is an important year for both Thailand and Vietnam.

President Sanan Angubolkul affirmed that he was honored to cooperate and coordinate with associations of Thai people of Vietnamese origin to jointly build a forward-looking relationship. He expressed hope that cooperation among the parties would help their members, including Thai people of Vietnamese origin, enjoy greater convenience in their daily lives and work.

The ceremony became more vibrant with songs celebrating love for the homeland, the country and President Ho Chi Minh. Vietnamese expatriates joined in the songs and conveyed their wishes for Vietnam’s development, as well as for friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.
