In his remarks, Vietnamese Minister of Home Affairs Do Thanh Binh highly appreciated the diligence, creativity and discipline of Vietnamese workers. These qualities earned the trust of Japanese enterprises and society, he said. Based on good bilateral relations, he believes the two countries will continue to expand labor cooperation, creating more opportunities for Vietnamese people to work in an advanced working environment, contributing high-quality human resources to the new development stage of the country.

Speaking at the “Vietnam Labor Day in Japan 2025”, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu emphasized that this is an initiative of the Prime Minister of Vietnam. He affirmed that the majority of Vietnamese workers are hard-working who comply with Japanese law. They make positive contributions to the local socio-economic situation and the Vietnam-Japan friendship.

There are currently more than 450,000 Vietnamese workers working in Japan with various residence statuses. Notably, Vietnamese workers account for more than 70% of the total number of specified skilled workers No. 2 - a group with high skill requirements, the Japanese Immigration Department reported.

This year's event is themed “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. It aims to encourages workers to comply with the law and respect local customs and practices, thereby building a responsible and sustainably integrated community.

In his congratulatory letter to the event, Japanese Deputy Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Nagasaka Yasumasa said that Vietnam is the largest sending country with about 200,000 technical interns and 150,000 specified skilled workers as of the end of June 2025. Many workers, after returning home, have effectively promoted the knowledge and skills accumulated in Japan.

The Law on Employment Training for Skills Development has been issued and starting April 1, 2027, it will replace the current Technical Internship Program. Japan also cooperated with JICA to build a job search platform for foreigners to expand transparent recruitment channels for Vietnamese workers.

In another letter sent to Labor Day, Japanese Deputy Minister of Justice Mitani Hidehiro affirmed that Vietnam is one of the most important partners, especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. By the end of June 2025, Japan had about 660,000 Vietnamese people living, studying, and working - the largest among foreign communities. Japan plans to receive 820,000 foreign workers under the specific skills program in 5 years from 2024; by mid-year this number has only reached 340,000 people, showing that the high demand for receiving workers, including Vietnamese people.

The representative of the receiving enterprise, Kato Ryo, Director of Corps Company, said that the company has received 708 Vietnamese interns since 2019 and currently has more than 400 Vietnamese workers working at the Villa Fonten hotel system. The hard-working and dedicated attitude of Vietnamese workers are highly appreciated. He wished to continue to expand the number of recruits.

Representative of the Vietnamese labor force in Japan, Tran Thi Kim Xuyen from Sanshin Kogyo Company has an impressive record of being a winner at a Japanese Speech Contest. She also passed the National Vocational Skills Exam Level 2 after 5 years of working in Japan. In her sharing, her plan is to continue to improve her skills and support new workers to integrate.

“Vietnam Labor Day in Japan 2025” is an occasion to honor exemplary workers, and to connect businesses - management agencies - workers. It contributes to realize the deep human resource cooperation between the two countries. In the context of Japan's labor shortage and Vietnam's possession of a young, high-quality workforce, human resource cooperation continues to be an important pillar to promote the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.
