- In recent days, as Vietnam prepares for the upcoming election of Deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, how would you describe the general public atmosphere and what you have observed on the streets?
In the days leading up to the election, what stands out to me is a strong sense of organization and collective participation. When talking to Vietnamese people about the matter, they are conducting their own research, which reflects how seriously the process is taken by the population.
As someone who has lived and worked in several countries, I find Vietnam’s approach very structured and with easy access. There is a clear effort to keep citizens informed and engaged. From what I observe in everyday conversations with colleagues, partners, and local communities, there is a shared understanding that these moments are important for the country’s long-term direction.
What I particularly appreciate is the sense of stability and continuity that accompanies the process. For businesses and investors, stability is a key element when evaluating long-term opportunities, and Vietnam consistently demonstrates that.
- From your perspective as a foreign entrepreneur living and working in Vietnam, how do you view the role of elected representatives in engaging with different communities, including the business sector?
I have lived and led businesses in 4 continents, and from the perspective of someone involved in business and international investment, elected representatives play a very important role as a bridge between national policy and the realities on the ground.
In a fast-growing economy like Vietnam, policies and regulations often need to evolve quickly to match economic development, technological change, and global integration. Representatives who maintain active dialogue with different stakeholders, including local communities, entrepreneurs, domestic companies, and foreign investors, can help ensure that policies remain practical and effective.
For the business community, engagement with policymakers is essential. It allows companies to share feedback about regulatory processes, infrastructure needs, workforce development, and innovation. When that dialogue is constructive, it helps create an environment where both businesses and society benefit.
Vietnam has already made remarkable progress in building a pro-business environment, and continued communication between policymakers and the private sector will only strengthen that trajectory.

- Under the lens of a business leader, what recommendations would you suggest to policymakers and future deputies in order to further improve the investment climate and regulatory environment?
Vietnam has already achieved significant success in attracting international investment and developing its manufacturing and technology sectors. From a business perspective, the next stage of growth will likely focus on efficiency, transparency, and innovation.
One important area is the continued simplification and digitalization of administrative procedures. Many reforms have already been implemented, but further streamlining licensing processes, customs procedures, and regulatory approvals would help businesses operate even more efficiently.
Another key area is support for innovation and technology adoption, especially in sectors related to energy efficiency, smart infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing. Encouraging collaboration between industry, universities, and research institutions can help Vietnam move further up the value chain.
Finally, maintaining a predictable and transparent regulatory environment is extremely valuable for investors. When businesses can clearly understand the rules and plan long-term, they are much more confident in committing capital, technology, and talent to the country.
I believe it is crucial to: (i) update banking regulations to make international transactions more efficient; (ii) make the representatives/regulations/support more visible in English for foreign entrepreneurs; (iii) make the representatives more accessible to business leaders so a direct feedback loop can happen. This can be done via business breakfast meetings with regional business leaders, for example, places where things can be discussed and presented to them by any business person.
- Looking ahead, what are your expectations for Vietnam’s social development and sustainable growth in the coming years?
Vietnam’s development over the past few decades has been truly impressive. What I expect in the coming years is a continued evolution toward a more knowledge-driven and innovation-oriented economy.
The country has several structural advantages: a young and dynamic workforce, strong entrepreneurial energy, and increasing integration into global markets. If these strengths continue to be supported by investment in education, infrastructure, and sustainable technologies, Vietnam has the potential to become one of the most influential economies in Southeast Asia.
Sustainability will also play an increasingly important role. Issues such as energy efficiency, smart urban development, and environmental responsibility are becoming central to long-term growth. Businesses, governments, and communities all have a role to play in this transformation.
As someone who has chosen to live and build part of my professional life in Vietnam, I remain very optimistic. The country combines ambition, resilience, and openness to progress, which are exactly the ingredients needed for sustained growth.
- Thank you very much!
