Recent data released on April 13 by Traveloka shows demand for short trips during the holiday has surged by nearly 40% year-on-year, highlighting the growing popularity of “micro-holidays.” Instead of extended vacations far from home, many travelers are opting for 2-3 day trips that prioritize convenience while still delivering meaningful experiences.

This trend reflects evolving travel habits, particularly among young people and urban families. With limited time, demanding work schedules, and a need to recharge, travelers are increasingly choosing nearby destinations that offer quick access, relaxation, and opportunities for exploration.
Market data also indicates rising interest in short-haul domestic flights, with searches up more than 40% on routes such as Hanoi-Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc, and Hanoi-Hue. Destinations close to major cities, especially those with natural landscapes, are drawing significant attention.

Among them, Ninh Binh has emerged as a standout, with search demand nearly tripling compared to the same period last year. Coastal cities like Nha Trang and Vung Tau have also recorded increases exceeding 40%, thanks to their appealing scenery, diverse resort options, and suitability for short stays.
Beyond domestic travel, nearby international destinations in Southeast and Northeast Asia continue to attract Vietnamese travelers, particularly those seeking a mix of leisure and cultural experiences within a limited timeframe. Searches for international flights and accommodations have risen by around 30%.

Another notable development is the rise of “smart travel.” Travelers are placing greater emphasis on optimizing costs, saving time, and ensuring convenience when booking services. Early reservations and bundled packages combining flights, hotels, and activities are becoming increasingly popular.
According to Baidi Li, Vice President of Commercial at Traveloka, short trips are no longer seen as backup options but are quickly becoming the preferred choice. Travelers are also planning earlier and focusing more on meaningful, high-quality experiences.
Experts believe this shift toward shorter yet more fulfilling trips will continue, driven by the growing importance of balancing work, rest, and personal enrichment. This trend also opens opportunities for the tourism sector to diversify offerings, with a stronger focus on short itineraries, personalized services, and authentic local experiences.
