The event was organized with the aim of connecting the community, preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural identity among overseas Vietnamese, and contributing to the strengthening of friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
In his opening remarks, Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Luan, President of the Vietnamese Association in Toyama and Head of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that “Homeland Spring is not only an annual cultural activity but also an occasion to preserve and promote national identity within the Vietnamese community abroad.” He affirmed that maintaining the Vietnamese language, upholding family traditions, fostering solidarity, and nurturing the spirit of self-improvement are practical ways to contribute to the nation’s overall development.
Attending and delivering congratulatory remarks, Vu Tien Han, Counselor and Head of the Consular Section at the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese Association in Toyama in building a united and strong community. From the reception area, the atmosphere of the traditional Lunar New Year was vividly recreated with peach blossoms, red parallel sentences, and traditional ao dai, forming a vibrant portrait of Vietnamese Spring amid the snowy landscape. Many families, especially children, eagerly captured early-year moments in a space richly adorned with traditional cultural elements. Booths featuring folk games and cuisine from Vietnam’s three regions introduced the flavors of Tet, contributing to a joyful, intimate, and friendly atmosphere among the Vietnamese community and local friends.
One of the highlights of the program was the cultural performance stage, with performances choreographed and presented by members of the Vietnamese community in Toyama. From lively Spring songs and graceful traditional dances to modern performances, the program showcased creativity and deep love for the homeland. Children also participated in martial arts performances, demonstrating confidence and strength, reflecting efforts to preserve traditional values among the younger generation.

The spirit of cultural exchange was further enriched by a vibrant Yosakoi performance by Japanese friends, adding diverse colors to the cultural landscape and strengthening friendship between the Vietnamese and Japanese communities locally. According to Toyama Prefectural Assembly member Nakagawa Tadaaki, cooperation between the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnam Friendship Association in Toyama over the years has created a practical cultural exchange space, helping local residents better understand the country and people of Vietnam.
Within the framework of the program, under the authorization of the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, Vu Tien Han announced and presented commendation decisions and certificates of merit to the Vietnamese Association in Toyama as a collective and to Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Luan individually for their outstanding achievements in community work. A lucky draw featuring more than 20 valuable prizes, along with a free screening of the film “Red Rain” for the community, attracted audiences of multiple generations, offering touching and bonding moments.
The “Homeland Spring 2026” program in Toyama served as a meaningful activity to connect the Vietnamese community far from home, introduce the beauty of traditional Vietnamese culture more broadly to international friends, and promote the image of the country and its people.
The success of “Homeland Spring 2026” in Toyama once again affirmed the active role of overseas Vietnamese in preserving national identity, strengthening solidarity, and promoting international exchange. The program stands as a vivid testament to the spirit of turning toward the homeland, creating meaningful Spring seasons and contributing to the increasingly sustainable development of Vietnam-Japan friendship.
