The first handbook on Vietnam's foreign economic affairs has been published in Russia, providing basic and up-to-date information on the achievements, orientations, external operations, and integration process of the economy, VOV & VNA reported.

The five-part book was a collaboration of scientists at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS)’s Institute of China and Contemporary Asia (ICCA) and research fellows and students at the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU)’s Institute of Asian and African Studies. It was funded by the Russia-Vietnam Cooperation Development Promotion Fund "Tradition and Friendship".

The first part of the book covers the characteristics and development trends of Vietnam's economy, and a brief assessment of the country’s socio-economic situation during 2010 - 2020. Part two provides an overview on its leading sectors and fields serving foreign trade. Part three summarises Vietnam's economic and trade relations with leading partners in the world. The last two parts contain information necessary for the registration and operation of a foreign enterprise in Vietnam, including the administrative and legal environment.

Speaking at the book launch ceremony in Moscow on December 16, Maxim Golikov from the Presidential Experts’ Directorate under the Russian Presidential Executive Office said Vietnam is a leading developing country in Southeast Asia and one of Russia's priorities, but information about the economy for businesses is still lacking.

The handbook with an overview and in-depth analysis of the market is very useful for Russian firms, he noted.

Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Russia Duong Hoang Minh said that this is the first book on Vietnam’s economy published in Russia, which combines in-depth knowledge about Vietnam in all aspects from a business perspective.

He believed that this scientific publication will contribute to promoting trade-investment relations between the two countries.

Kiril Babaev, acting director of the ICCA, added that this is a very useful book for both the scientific and business communities.

“This handbook provides the basis for cooperation between our companies, between our two countries, between Russian and Vietnamese authorities. I believe that the book will be popular with businessmen who want to start work in Vietnam, as well as representatives of Russian government agencies and officials who are carrying out their best to improve the efficiency of cooperation between our two countries,” Babaev said.

Dr. Irina Korgun, head of the Centre of Russian Strategy in Asia, Institute of Economics of Russian Academy of Sciences, was very impressed with the book, because it provides an in-depth analysis of Vietnam's economy not only in region, but also the whole industries. Therefore, it has gone beyond the framework of an ordinary reference manual and is a valuable work in both science and practice, not only for Russian researchers and businesses, but also other different countries.

Dr. Do Xuan Hoang, council chairman of the "Tradition and Friendship" Fund said that, in the context that Russia is promoting its “Pivot to the East” strategy and Vietnam being a dynamic developing economy, the book is very necessary or Russian businesses that want to invest in Vietnam.

It also proves that the potential of young Vietnamese scientists and researchers in Russia is huge and needs to be further developed. That is also one of the purposes that the "Traditional and Friendship" Fund always aims to promote the scientific-technical cooperation relationship in particular and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Vietnam in general.
