On January 11 and 12, Vietnamese overseas in South Korea, Indonesia, Argentina and Hong Kong (China) gathered to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet) in celebrations held by Vietnamese Embassies.

Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Nguyen Vu Tu happily briefed Vietnamese community the domestic economic situation in the past year. The Ambassador emphasized that Korean businesses have an important contribution to the Vietnamese economy, accounting for about 30% of Vietnam’s total export value. South Korea remains Vietnam’s largest FDI investor, the second largest trade partner and also a provider of official development assistance (ODA).

There are over 190,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Korea. The Vietnamese community in Korea is constantly growing and becoming one of the typical Vietnamese communities, with many achievements to contribute to the homeland.

* Vietnamese community in Indonesia gather for Tet

From Jakarta, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Quang Vinh sent the best wishes to overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of Lunar New Year.

The Ambassador is pleased to announced that in 2019, Vietnam has achieved many outstanding achievements such as GDP growth of 7.02%, trade surplus reaching a record of US$ 9.94 billion, inflation below 3%, international tourists reaching 18 million.

Vietnam also achieved outstanding achievements in foreign affairs, as evidenced by its seat on UN Security Council non-permanent membership, and the holding of the second of US-Korea Summit.

The Ambassador said affirmed that Vietnam – Indonesia relations will be further advanced in 2020 as the two country both becoming non-permanent members of UN Security Council, Vietnam assuming ASEAN Chairmanship and Vietnam, Indonesia celebrating 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

* Vietnamese in Argentina excitingly welcome Lunar New Year

In the joyful atmosphere of a coming year, Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Dang Xuan Dung briefed great achievements that Vietnam achieved in the past year.

Regarding the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Argentina, the Ambassador said that although Argentina is experiencing difficult time, the two country’s comprehensive partnership continued to developed, as explained by two outstanding achievements: State-level visit to Vietnam by President Mauricio Macri on February 2019 and US$ 3.8 billion bilateral trade turnover.

Ambassador Dang Xuan Dung highly appreciated the continuous development of the Vietnamese community in Argentina, and at the same time expressing his desire that Vietnamese community will keep preserving the national identity, building a solid Vietnamese community in Argentina and play a role to promote traditional friendship between Vietnam and Argentina.

* Vietnamese community in Hong Kong (China) celebrate Tet

On the evening of January 12, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong organized Tet celebration for Vietnamese community who are living, working and studying in Hong Kong.

Vietnam Consulate General in Hong Kong, Mr. Tran Thanh Huan said Vietnam-Hong Kong relations in 2019 continued to grow strongly. The two-way trade balance in the first 11 months of 2019 reached US$ 19 billion, up 4.3%. For the first time, Vietnam had a trade surplus with Hong Kong after many years of trade deficit. 2019 marked the strong development of Hong Kong investors in Vietnam with 1,735 new and expanded investment projects, with a total registered capital of US$ 23.44 billion.

At the event, Mr. Tran Thanh Huan acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Hong Kong in the cause of building the homeland.

According to incomplete statistics, there are about 8,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Hong Kong.
