Thanh Hoa and Da Nang Celebrate Bunpimay New Year for Lao Students

On April 6, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of Thanh Hoa province held a meeting with Lao students currently studying at universities and colleges in the province.

According to Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio & Television, Do Thi Toan, Standing Vice Chairwoman of Thanh Hoa Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Thanh Hoa, extended New Year greetings to the students. She affirmed that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is an invaluable asset, carefully nurtured over generations by leaders and citizens of both countries.

Thanh Hoa and Lao localities, particularly Hua Phan province, continue to maintain comprehensive cooperation across many fields, with education and training serving as a central, long-term pillar that connects generations. Provincial leaders expressed their hope that Lao students would remain dedicated to their studies and personal development, thereby contributing to the preservation and promotion of the traditional friendship between the two nations.

On this occasion, leaders of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Thanh Hoa, together with representatives from relevant departments and agencies, presented gifts to the Lao students.

Earlier, on March 30, the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa province also held a meeting with Lao students. At this event, provincial leaders urged educational institutions to continue innovating curricula, programs, and teaching methods to better align with the realities of Laos. They also emphasized the importance of ensuring students’ material and spiritual well-being, fostering a safe and friendly environment for both learning and daily life.

Speaking at the ceremony, a representative highlighted that Bunpimay, the Lao New Year, not only marks the change of season but also celebrates the Lao people’s rich cultural identity. He expressed hope that Lao students would study diligently, preserve their national traditions, actively participate in cultural exchanges, and serve as “cultural ambassadors” strengthening Vietnam-Laos relations.

Meanwhile, in Da Nang, universities under the University of Da Nang also organized Bunpimay celebrations for Lao students, featuring a variety of unique cultural activities.

According to the University of Technology - Da Nang University, the Bunpimay 2026 program, organized by Lao students on April 4, recreated traditional customs and provided a meaningful space for cultural exchange. The event highlighted Lao cultural identity while sharing it with Vietnamese students, thereby strengthening solidarity and fostering close ties between students of both countries.

At the University of Economics - Da Nang University, on April 5, students from Vietnam and Laos joined in festive activities such as tying lucky threads around wrists, enjoying traditional Lao cuisine, splashing water for blessings, and engaging in cultural exchanges. These activities created a warm, joyful, and vibrant atmosphere in celebration of the Lao New Year.
