Two Vietnamese Youths Awarded For Bravery In Rescuing People In Japan

On August 22, the Mie Prefectural Government of Japan, in coordination with the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, held a ceremony to present certificates of commendation to Pham Quoc Dat and Tong Manh Tuan, two young Vietnamese men who bravely saved two children from drowning at sea on August 11.

According to the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, speaking at the event, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu highly appreciated and commended the courageous act of Pham Quoc Dat (27 years old) and Tong Manh Tuan (28 years old) in saving two children from drowning at sea on August 11. The Ambassador emphasized that this noble deed has helped spread a profound sense of responsibility toward the community, while also highlighting the admirable image and noble spirit of the Vietnamese people in the eyes of the Japanese public and authorities. He noted that it stands as an exemplary model of courage, responsibility, and compassion of the Vietnamese people.

Ino Takumi, Director of the Tsu City Fire Department in Mie Prefecture, expressed: “Once again, we sincerely thank you both. Your remarkable courage saved two lives and brought happiness to the children’s family. The family has also sent their heartfelt gratitude to you. You are a wonderful bridge between Vietnam and Japan.”

Earlier, on August 11, at Gotenba Beach in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, two Japanese children were playing on float rings near the shore when they were suddenly swept away by strong waves and carried along the coast. Upon noticing the emergency, Pham Quoc Dat and Tong Manh Tuan immediately plunged into the rough waves, swam ahead of the current, and brought the children safely back to shore.
