Vietnamese Ao Dai and Cuisine Captivate Czech Audiences

The “Vietnamese Culture, Cuisine, and Ao Dai Promotion Festival” took place on June 5 in the city of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, attracting large numbers of local residents, international visitors, and members of the Vietnamese community. The event helped showcase the beauty of Vietnam’s traditional culture while strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The festival was held under the patronage of the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe, and the Union of Vietnamese Women’s Associations in Europe. It drew participation from local government representatives, community organizations, the Vietnamese diaspora, and local residents.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hoang Dinh Thang, President of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic, said the festival was organized with the aim of bringing Vietnam’s traditional cultural values closer to the Czech public and international friends. According to him, culture is not only a bond connecting overseas Vietnamese with their roots but also a lasting bridge that fosters understanding and solidarity among nations.

Congratulating the organizers, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam emphasized that culture and cuisine possess a unique ability to transcend geographical and language barriers. In the heart of Karlovy Vary, graceful ao dai garments and the rich flavors of Vietnamese dishes offered the public a glimpse into a country known for its deep traditions, distinctive identity, and growing integration with the world.

Representing the local authorities, Governor Petr Kubis praised the significance of the festival, describing it as an opportunity for the people of Karlovy Vary to discover the unique features of Vietnamese culture while enriching the city's vibrant multicultural landscape.

Following the opening ceremony, the festival grounds quickly came alive with more than 20 booths showcasing traditional Vietnamese dishes. Steaming bowls of pho, crispy fried spring rolls, and regional specialties attracted large crowds of local residents and tourists. Many visitors expressed delight at experiencing the refined flavors of Vietnamese cuisine for the first time.

One of the event’s highlights was the distribution of free ao dai to Czech residents and international visitors. Surrounded by vibrant colors, many guests eagerly tried on the traditional Vietnamese attire, capturing memorable photographs and gaining a deeper appreciation of the elegance and beauty of Vietnamese culture.

As part of the festival, finalists of the Miss Ao Dai Mrs. Europe 2026 pageant participated in an ao dai parade through central Karlovy Vary. Accompanied by their husbands and children, the contestants carried traditional conical hats and warmly greeted passersby and tourists along the route.
