Vietnam’s Central province seeks investment attraction opportunities from EU

In preparation for the new working term in Europe, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Luxembourg and Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the European Union on April 20 worked with Nghe An Province.

The meeting was also attended by other Vietnamese Ambassadors to European countries.

Mr. Le Ngoc Hoa, Vice Chairman of Nghe An People's Committee and representatives from the province’s related departments and branches received and work with the delegation, according to the World & Vietnam Report.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Nghe An’s leaders, Hoa warmly welcomed the Ambassadors’ delegation to survey and work with the locality, at the same time informed the delegation main features of the province's natural, socio-economic characteristics and investment attraction.

According to Hoa, Nghe An has great potential and a dense population, therefore, it really needs resources for investment development. During the past time, although the province has made efforts to attract investment, the results have remained modest. Therefore, he expressed his hope that Vietnamese Ambassadors to the EU would serve as a bridge to introduce the locality to international investors and friends.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Ambassadors’ delegation to the EU, Mr.Nguyen Van Thao briefed Nghe An leaders on some requirements and main tasks of the Ambassadors’ delegation to the EU. In the context of intensive international integration, besides political diplomacy, economic diplomacy also plays an important role, taking advantage of resources to develop the country.

In an open spirit, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao raised an issue that to effectively cooperate with the EU, it’s necessary for Nghe An to map out a specific cooperative plan so that the delegation can grasp and introduce it to the EU, especially the province’s strategic developmental orientations; prioritizing investment in the coming years (in fields of agriculture, processing industry, ecotourism or environmental protection, etc).

The EU consists of 27 members with a high level of development. In ASEAN, only Vietnam and Singapore have signed Agreements with Europe, however, the negotiations have been really hard.

Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao emphasized that in this working term, the National Assembly and the Government set out high requirements for Ambassadors, in which, economic diplomacy must be considered as a top priority to promote economic cooperation and investment between countries and Vietnam.

Receiving additional comments from the Ambassadors and representatives from Nghe An’s departments and branches, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao acknowledged the contents provided by the province. He added that Nghe An should focus on fields of investment attraction, supporting industry, ecotourism, etc.

On behalf of the province’s leaders, Mr. Le Ngoc Hoa respectfully accepted the comments of the Ambassadors’ delegation and the attention from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past time. In the coming time, the Provincial People's Committee will assign the Department of Foreign Affairs to be the focal point; at the same time, the province will also direct the functional departments to complete the capacity profile, connect and keep contact with the delegation so that it can timely receive consultation from the delegation.
