At the signing ceremony, Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, director general of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, emphasized, “This event symbolizes a forward-looking strategic partnership between two key players in ASEAN tourism, with a shared goal of connecting our countries and people through tourism, culture, and sustainable development.”
At the event, Dang Anh Tuan, deputy CEO of Vietnam Airlines, also highlighted the importance of this partnership in promoting aviation and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia.
“Building on a solid foundation of effective collaboration, we believe this newly signed MoC will pave the way for a broader and more impactful partnership between Vietnam Airlines and the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board,” he stated.
Following the speeches, the official signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation was conducted, marking a significant step forward in tourism relations between Vietnam and Malaysia. The agreement sets the stage for joint promotional efforts and expanded development opportunities.
Under the MoC, both sides will jointly promote tourism via Vietnam Airlines’ air routes, with a focus on sustainable tourism and other shared priorities. This cooperation not only reinforces Malaysia’s tourism promotion strategy but also strengthens the connection between Vietnam’s national carrier and a top destination in Southeast Asia.
In the coming months, Vietnam Airlines and the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board will roll out a series of co-branded marketing campaigns, familiarization trips, media collaborations, events, and market intelligence sharing. The goal is to position Malaysia as a leading destination for both leisure and business travelers, while also promoting Vietnam Airlines as the preferred airline for Vietnamese tourists flying to Malaysia.
As of July 2025, there are 164 direct flights per week between the two countries, offering a total capacity of 29,734 seats. These routes connect major Vietnamese cities—Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, and Nha Trang—with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kota Kinabalu. Services are operated by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, AirAsia, Batik Air, and Malaysia Airlines, meeting strong demand for travel and trade between the two nations.
Beyond aviation cooperation, Malaysia aims to ramp up tourism promotion in Vietnam through themed seminars, cultural events, and marketing campaigns targeting both mainstream and niche markets. Key highlights include Malaysia MADANI Week in Hanoi, the Malaysia Tourism, Culture and Cuisine Festival 2025 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and long-term programs such as “Malaysia My Second Home” (MM2H) and the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
