Vietnamese Community in Australia Raises 1.1 Billion VND for New School in Dien Bien

On April 11th, in Chieng Sinh commune (Dien Bien province), the Huoi Mau branch of Khong Hin Kindergarten was officially inaugurated. The project was a collaboration between the 94-97 Architecture and Construction Group, the Melbourne Philanthropy Group, and the 1+1>2 Architecture Office. This is a charitable project funded by Vietnamese expatriates in Melbourne, aimed at giving back to their roots.

The Huoi Mau school is located in Huoi Nom village. Since this is an area with many difficulties, the school was mainly makeshift, cramped, and dilapidated prefabricated buildings. Teachers and students suffered from frequent leaks and floods during the rainy season.

After conducting a site survey, the charitable project was established to build a new, spacious, and child-friendly school. Construction began on November 29, 2025, and was completed on schedule despite the challenging conditions in the mountainous region regarding transportation and communication. The total construction cost was over VND 1.1 billion.

On the occasion of the inauguration, a hand-over ceremony was held by the organizing committee and sponsors. There are 200 gifts to students, 20 gifts to disadvantaged households, and various teaching equipment to the school, totaling over VND 155 million. According to the organizing committee, the local residents also volunteered hundreds of labor days to transform the school grounds into a reality for the children.

The opening of Huoi Mau school not only improves educational conditions in disadvantaged areas but also demonstrates the affection of the Vietnamese expatriate community in Australia for their homeland, contributing to spreading the spirit of compassion and strengthening people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries.
