A fashion show with the theme “Vietnamese 'Ao dai' meet Thai silk” took place in Bangkok on December 7, VNA reported Thursday.

The show, organised by Vietnam’s Embassy to Thailand, the Association of Thai Silk Promotion and the Association of Thai Culture and Promotion, came within the framework of the third Thai Silk International Fashion Week that runs from December 6 to 12.

Received an invitation from the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, 5 famous Vietnamese designers including Le Thi Lan Huong, Tran Thien Khanh, Ngo Nhat Huy, Duy Hoang, Ruby Tran have introduced traditional, modern and creative collections of Vietnamese traditional Ao dai to the public in Thailand and around the world.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh said that the show was expected to bring new value to the “ao dai” (traditional long dress) so that it will be not only an iconic cultural value of Vietnam but also a Vietnamese tourism ambassador to Thai people.

The program opened with a performance of national costumes from 3 designers Tran Thien Khanh, Ngo Nhat Huy and Ruby Tran.

Local designer Ngo Nhat Huy debuted his latest Ao Dai (long dress) collection at the fashion week. The collection makes use of both Vietnamese and Thai silk as the key material, whilst also featuring traditional patterns such as lilies, roses, and chrysanthemums, according VOV.

The designs clearly show the culture exchange between the two neighbouring countries, and at the same time send a message about people’s responsibility towards environmental protection, Huy said.

The event saw Thuy Tien, Miss Grand International 2021, take on the role as vedette.

The other celebrities invited to model Huy’s collection include Fom Natrawee Chiarasathid, Miss Earth Water Thailand 2022, Bao Ngoc, Miss Intercontinental 2022, and Ha Kieu Anh, Miss Vietnam 1992.

These collections will be luxuriously and creatively designed on Thai and Vietnamese silk, thereby honoring the Vietnamese Ao Dai as a cultural heritage, promoting closeness and exchange between the two peoples.

The event aims at promoting Thai silk and creates opportunities to strengthen cooperation and cultural exchanges between Thailand and other countries, especially in the fields of art, fashion, and textiles. More than 100 Thai and international designers participate in designing costumes with Thai silk.
