Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy and Malta Duong Hai Hung emphasized that the relations between Vietnam and Malta are steadily improving, with significant potential for further cooperation. Although the Vietnamese population in Malta is relatively small compared to other foreign communities, it possesses many strengths and is growing rapidly. The Embassy is consistently committed to supporting and caring for the Vietnamese community in Malta.

Representing the Vietnamese Association in Malta, Vo Khac Huy reported on the community’s current situation. He emphasized that despite their modest numbers, Vietnamese individuals in Malta are highly educated, employed across various sectors, and maintain a strong sense of unity and connection to their homeland. The Vietnamese Association in Malta, officially established in August 2022 with active support from the Embassy, particularly the Ambassador, has played a key role in organizing cultural events that have left a positive impression on the local population. These include the “Rendezvous with Vietnam in Malta” in Valletta, “Homeland Spring 2023,” and initiatives connecting the community to Radio 103 through the Malta Migration Commission.

The Vietnamese community in Malta expressed gratitude to the Party and State for their recent policies supporting overseas Vietnamese, as well as for the continued support and companionship of the Embassy. They also voiced a desire for more Vietnamese delegations to visit Malta to deepen bilateral ties with the host country and to keep the community regularly informed about developments in Vietnam.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang acknowledged and highly commended the dedication, efforts, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the Vietnamese Association in Malta. She praised the Association’s role in fostering community cohesion and promoting Vietnamese culture in the host country. The Deputy Minister emphasized that every Vietnamese citizen living abroad serves as a “cultural ambassador,” helping to share Vietnamese values and bring the image of Vietnam and its people closer to international friends.

Sharing outcomes from her meetings with Maltese leaders, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang noted that the Maltese government places great importance on its relationship with Vietnam and responded positively to proposals aimed at supporting the Vietnamese community in Malta.

She affirmed that the community enjoys favorable conditions for stable living and development, especially given the goodwill and sympathy of the Maltese government and people toward Vietnam. Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang encouraged the community to continue organizing meaningful activities, strengthen solidarity, and work together to preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural identity and language. She called on them to remain connected to their roots and contribute actively to the socio-economic life of their host country.

Sharing with the community about major policies of the Party and State in the new era, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that the Party and State always respect and highly appreciate the positive contributions of overseas Vietnamese. She emphasized that favorable conditions are consistently created for overseas Vietnamese to participate in the cause of national construction and development, especially through their intelligence, expertise, skills, technology, experience, and strong work ethic.

New policies and laws related to overseas Vietnamese, particularly the Law on Nationality, the Law on Identification, the Law on Land, and Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, are important milestones that both address the concerns and aspirations of the people and encourage them to maintain strong ties with the homeland.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang invited the Vietnamese community to return to the country and participate in events organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, such as the Homeland Spring program, the delegation attending the Hung Kings’ death anniversary, the visit to Truong Sa island district, the Summer Camp for overseas Vietnamese youth, and training courses for Vietnamese language teachers.

Highly appreciating the achievements in supporting and mobilizing the community, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang requested the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy to build on these positive results, continue implementing effective citizen protection measures, and strengthen cooperation with overseas Vietnamese so that the community can feel secure in doing business, living, and further developing.

The Republic of Malta is situated in the Mediterranean Sea, near the south of Italy and just north of Tunisia. With an area of over 316 square kilometers and a population of approximately 520,000, Malta is one of the smallest countries in the world. In recent years, Malta has emerged as an increasingly attractive destination for investors, international students, and foreign workers, including those from Vietnam.
