According to preliminary statistics, as of 8:00 a.m. on October 2, Typhoon No. 10 had left 36 people dead, 21 missing, and 147 injured; damaged more than 154,800 houses; destroyed tens of thousands of hectares of rice fields, crops, and aquaculture farms; swept away thousands of livestock and hundreds of thousands of poultry; and damaged many schools, electric poles, river embankments, and coastal dikes. The total economic loss is estimated at around 11 trillion VND.
President Do Van Chien stated that the Party and State have been implementing solutions and mobilizing resources to restore infrastructure, support production recovery, and ensure the people’s livelihood. Given the limited state budget, he emphasized the need to uphold the nation’s precious tradition of solidarity, forged over thousands of years of history, with the spirit of “mutual affection and mutual support” and “the good leaves protect the worn-out leaves.” He underlined the truth that “Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one,” and that those in safe areas and those suffering from storms and floods form a united whole that must accompany and support each other for a strong, prosperous, and developed Vietnam.
